The International Association for Studying and Application of the Methods of Ilizarov (ASAMI) was founded in Italy in 1982. The International A.S.A.M.I. includes associations from more than 30 countries. The first meeting took place in the USA in 1998. The next meetings were held in Italy, Turkey and Japan. Since 2004 it holds biannual international meetings.

The last congress took place in St. Petersburg in May 2008. Professor V.I. Shevtsov, honored scientist of the Russian Federation, corresponding member of RAMS, holds office of the President of the International ASAMI. G. Hosny (Egypt) is elected its secretary.
